| China Club
The China Club, a private members' club, is
located on the top three floors of the old Bank of China
Building, a declared historical landmark in Central, Hong Kong.
 |
The China
Club was designed with a strong feeling of tradition and
history, relying on motifs widely used in Hnog Kong and Shanghai
in the 1930's and 1940's. All the works of art in the
club, paintings or sculptures, are by Chinese artists from
China, Taiwan or Hong Kong. Music being an important
element in the club, a unique Bosendorfer grand piano stands
in a discreet corner of the main dining room.
|
The main dining room o nthe thirteenth floor
is a large room with a high ceiling, art deco chandeliers and
old Shanghai electric fans gently turning overhead. The
walls are half panelled in oak and mahogany above which original
works of art hang. All the tables and chairs are old and
the surrounding banquettes emphasize the concept of the
traditional 19th century tea-house.
 |
The library has one of the best
collections of books on China and the Chinese. It
numbers over five thousand volumes and was one of the
first acquisitions of the club. The historical
balcony on the outside of the library affords one of the
most splendid views of Hong Kong.
