Lantau Island Cruise

Hong Kong's largest island, Lantau, has been called the "Island of Prayer" because of its many temples and monasteries.  It also boasts some of Hong Kong's finest scenery.  The longest suspension bridge in the world connects Lantau with Tsing Yi on the Kowloon side.  Visit Tai O, a beautiful small fishing village with homes built on wooden stilts over the water.  Explore the alleys to catch a glimpse of everyday life or wander the market offering locally produced dried seafood.  Continue to Cheung Sha, one of the finest sweeps of long, smooth sandy beaches on Lantau.

On the return cruise, there are other new and remarkable infrastructural landmarks, like Kowloon Wharf and its developments, Kowloon Expressway, and the nearby Stone-cutter's island which for many decades served as a British Royal Navy base until June 1997, but having been re-built is now a Chinese PLA Navy base.

The brightly painted red, orange and gold Po Lin Monastery up on Lantau's mountainous central spine is the island's most famous attraction.  The world's largest outdoor bronze Buddha, at 72 feet high, was completed in 1990.
