Day Tours to China
One Day China Tour to Zhongshan via Macau.
The trip begins with a 70 minute journey by turbo catamaran to Macau.
Upon arrival is a short drive by coach to the Chinese border at Gongbei.
The first stop is Cuiheng Village, the birthplace of Dr. Sun Yatsen,
founder of the Chinese Republic. Sites included are the former residence
of Dr. Sun, the Exhibition Hall and the Memorial School.
For most Chinese, the Zhongshan Ling, the mausoleum of Sun Yatsen, is
Nanjing's main attraction. Known as the father of modern China, he was
the founder of the republic in 1911 and wrote many political treatises,
which to this day remain required reading in schools in both the People's
Republic and Taiwan. In one of China's largest funerals, Sun Yatsen's
last wish was carried out four years after his death in 1925. The massive
size of this monument is staggering, covering 20 acres. At the end of
the tree-lined avenue begins a climb of 392 granite steps leading up
to the blue-tiled memorial hall. There are a few places to rest and enjoy
the view of Nanjing along the way. The first hall contains a statue of
the leader surrounded by walls with inscriptions telling his history
and his most influential political theories. Directly in the back of
the hall is the entrance to the circular vault room, where the tomb itself
may be viewed.
Chinese lunch will be served at the Hot Spring Resort Restaurant. After
lunch, the tour continues with a visit to a commune, a farmer's house,
and then on to a market where local farmers sell their products.
