Macau Excursion
While you are in Hong Kong it is worthwhile to take an exciting side trip to exotic Macau - the former Portuguese province. It is the oldest European settlement on China's coast. There are temples, memorials, old forts, ruins and most of all, a mixture of old Portugal with older China. The true fascination of Macau is the fact that the Portuguese first arrived there some 20 years after Columbus discovered North America.
Nowadays, Macau is a strange blend of old and new with its brand new apartment complexes and hotels mingling with the old Portuguese style buildings, and ancient monuments. It is also well know for its casinos that are open 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.
