Sai Kung Peninsula Tour Sai Kung is one of Hong Kong's most unspoiled areas. Sai Kung District is the second-largest administrative district in Hong Kong, yet it is home to only about 170,000 people. The peninsula's hilly terrain limits its development potential, as do the boundaries of three country parks, which cover most of the district. Renowned as the "back garden of Hong Kong," it is a popular destination for holiday-makers. The country parks, mountains and beautiful beaches attract many picnickers and hikers from the city.
Fisherman from southern China were the earliest residents of these peaceful hills. They moored in the inlet shelters in the 14th century, establishing small coastal villages. They made their living by farming and fishing. Later, Hakka migrants from the north of the Shenzhen River also established themselves in Sai Kung. Despite the changes, Sai Kung town, a regional market centre, retains the atmosphere of an old South China fishing village. Here, you will find seafood markets, many restaurants, a waterfront promenade, narrow backlanes, and an ancient Tin Hau temple. Seafood lunch will be served. |
