Kowloon & New Territories Tour

The first stop of this seat-in-coach tour is Luen Wo Market. It is a typical old-style rural market established in 1948. Its regular stall holders set up shop in an outdoor square, providing residents in the region with a large variety of fresh produce, daily necessities and electronic equipment.

On the way to the Kam Tin Walled Village will be a stop at Lok Ma Chau, which is an excellent vantage point to glimpse the remarkable skyline of Shenzhen - the rapidly developing city across the Hong Kong/China border.

Kam Tin is the original, 10th century settling place of the Tang Clan, the first of the Cantonese "Five Great Clans" to migrate to the N.T. from farther north in China. Built during the late 1600's and still inhabited by hundreds of residents all bearing the Tang surname, it was primarily a defensive stronghold against tigers, rival clans and wandering bands of vanquished Ming Dynasty followers who had turned to piracy and brigandage.

The last stop is Wong Tai Sin Temple. This large, modern Taoist Temple is visited by more than three million worshippers annually, and no other Hong Kong temple presents visitors with such a large range of insight into Chinese religious beliefs and practices.
